Congratulations to Zoe Carnegis for her accomplishment in establishing a partnership between the Independent Hose Company and The Frederick County High School LYNX program. Because of this accomplishment she has received the Charles H. & Mutt Deater, Jr. Apprentice of the Year Award. Her dedication and efforts towards being an advocate for our communities youth does not go unnoticed.

Charles H. & Mutt & Deater, Jr. Apprentice of the Year Award. This award is named in memory of Charles H.
& Mutt & Deater, Jr., a long-time member of the United Steam Fire Engine Company No. 3. This award is
given in recognition of the accomplishments and outstanding service of an apprentice or young member
of the fire and rescue service. In his many years as a member of the United Fire Company, Mutt & Deater
worked tirelessly to develop knowledge, skills, and a sense of community in members of the department
under the age of 18 years. He chose not to refer to these individuals as Junior members because the
Juniors were six blocks north. Many young members benefited from his time, dedication and expertise.
