Around 1500hrs units from Woodsboro and New Midway fire station were dispatched for a horse in a sinkhole. Units arrived on scene and found a horse at the bottom of a 10 to 12 foot hole. The horses front legs were folded under him and his back legs were covered in mud. Chief 16 established command and requested the Frederick County ATR Team. The ATR Team arrived on scene with command began to assess the scene. Command then requested Carroll County ATR Team and Days Inn Horse Farm to assist with additional equipment. Crews from Carroll and Federicks ATR Team began to shore the side walls of the hole. Once the walls was shored up and safe to enter, rescuers assisted a Veterinarian into the hole to assess the horse. The Veterinarian gave the horse some a IV and some warm fuilds. Crews then began to move the horse to a large sled that the Days Inn Farm provided. Once the horse was loaded onto the sled the ATR Teams used a rope system to pull the horse out of the hole. Immediately after the rescue, the Veterinarian and worker from the Days Inn Farm began to check the horse for injuries. They found nothing to be seriouly wrong with the horse. While crews were cleaning up their equipment, workers from the Days Inn Farm had the horse standing up and walking. The overall rescue toke over 5hrs.
