John Franklin "Jack" Fleischman, 97, of Frederick, passed from this life on Sunday, September 20, 2026 at Kline Hospice House in Mount Airy

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Ruby Hildebrand Fleischman.

Born on April 3, 1929, in Frederick, he was the son of the late Earl "Bunk" Fleischman and Ella McGill Fleischman.

He is survived by his daughter, Linda Johnson and son Tyler Johnson; granddaughter, Cheryl D. Wachter Landes; great grandchildren Payton and Bailee Landes, sister Shirley Taylor; son-in-law Elmer Wachter, Jr. as well as numerous nieces, great nieces and nephews; and special friends Scott and Kristy Morgan. Jack was also preceded in death by his daughter Cathy Wachter, grandson Bruce Wayne Hinman and son-in-law Eugene "RD" Johnson, Jr.

Jack was a 1946 graduate of Frederick High School and served in the US Army for 2 years in Japan and Korea. While serving in Korea he earned a Purple Heart and Combat Infantry Badge. He worked for the Frederick Post Office and retired after 34 years as a letter carrier. Jack also worked at Ft. Detrick Fire Dept and Ft. Detrick Guard Force, as well as full time and part time at the Great Frederick Fair for 42 years.

He was a member of American Legion Post 11 and AMVETS Post 2; but was most known as a life member of the Independent Fire Co 1, joining in 1945 where he held many positions in administrative and operational capacities throughout his service. Jack could usually be found at the firehouse drinking coffee and reading the paper with the "Coffee Club"

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Thursday, October 1, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick, where a celebration of John's life will take place at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 2, with Rev Tim May officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Frederick.
